Family Stop

Charles H. Spurgeon, a renowned minister, said, “Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.” What do you think he meant? How does Sandy carve her name on the hearts of tiny babies and their mothers? How has the influence of her church’s “Little Angels” outreach and the bereavement gifts from the senior adults made an impact? How can our family carve its name on the hearts of people?

BRINGING SCRIPTuRE HOME

As a family, memorize one Bible verse each week this month. It’s a great way to bond your family with biblical truths that provide lifelong wisdom.

• Talk about ways to show kindness to teachers and other school employees.

Week of November 4: “And be kind and compassionate to one another.” Ephesians 4:32a

Week of November 11: “Show faithful love and compassion to one another.” Zechariah 7:9b

Week of November 18: “Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure — pressed down, shaken together, and running over — will be poured into your lap.” Luke 6:38a

Week of
November 25:
“Whatever
you do, do it
enthusiastically,
as something done
for the Lord and
not for men.”
Colossians 3: 23

A promise Sandy made is taking her on a real faith walk. “I don’t get the rest of the story; I don’t get to see the end miracle. I rely on God that my being there is making a difference. Sometimes we plant the seed, but we don’t get to see the bloom. My joy is not that I get to see it all work out; my joy is knowing that I’m helping a piece of it work out. I give the babies a blessing, and God honors that. He constantly reminds me, ‘Sandy, you can’t fix the world, but I can.’”

• Choose a way to give an extra dose of kindness to someone whose dad or mom is deployed (visit, hug, meal).

• Think of someone you can invite to share Thanksgiving dinner. Also discuss ways to show kindness when extended family gathers.

1 Kind Kid

Trevor Greer has always had a heart for others. For his 9th birthday, Trevor asked his friends to bring cleaning supplies to help the people in Mississippi and Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Trevor and his buddies delivered the supplies to a local Disaster Relief agency. According to Trevor, “The people there needed help a lot more than I needed toys.”
